How to Check if a Bouncy Castle will Fit In Your Venue

You've chosen a bouncy castle, found a date that works and started planning the party. But there's one important question to answer before booking: will the bouncy castle actually fit?

It's not just about whether the inflatable will squeeze into your garden or hall. You also need room for safe access, the blower, anchoring and the people using it. A little measuring beforehand can save a lot of trouble on the day.

At Bouncetastic, we provide bouncy castle hire in Liverpool and throughout Merseyside. We've put together this practical guide to help you check your available space, understand inflatable dimensions and choose suitable equipment for your event.

Step 1: Measure Your Available Floor Space

Start by measuring the area where you want the inflatable installed. You'll need two measurements:

  • Width: Measure from one side of the usable area to the other.
  • Length: Measure from the front of the proposed inflatable position to the back.

Use a tape measure rather than estimating by eye. Gardens can look surprisingly spacious until you account for fences, sheds, flowerbeds, decking and other obstacles.

For indoor venues, measure the usable floor space rather than the room's overall dimensions. Tables, chairs, pillars, radiators and emergency exits can all reduce the space available.

Every inflatable in our full product range has its own dimensions, so check the measurements of the particular item you're considering.

Step 2: Allow Extra Space Around the Bouncy Castle

The dimensions of a bouncy castle are not necessarily the same as the space required to install it safely.

For example, a bouncy castle measuring 12ft wide by 15ft long will need additional clearance around it. The exact requirements depend on the inflatable's design, blower position, anchoring arrangements and manufacturer instructions.

As an initial planning guide, you may need approximately 3ft of clearance at the front and rear and 2ft at either side, although some inflatables require considerably more. These figures are not a substitute for the individual product's safety requirements.

Make sure you account for:

  • Space for children to enter and leave safely.
  • Clearance from walls, fences and other obstacles.
  • Room for the electric blower and inflation tube.
  • Suitable anchoring positions.
  • Access for supervision and emergency situations.

If the measurements are close, don't assume the inflatable will fit. Contact our team with your available dimensions before booking.

Step 3: Check the Ceiling Height for Indoor Bouncy Castle Hire

Hiring a community hall, church hall, sports centre or function room? Height is just as important as width and length.

A hall might have plenty of floor space but a ceiling that's too low for your chosen inflatable. You must also consider hanging lights, ceiling beams, basketball hoops and other overhead fixtures.

Measure from the floor to the lowest overhead obstruction within the proposed setup area. The inflatable must have the vertical clearance required by its manufacturer, not simply fit beneath the ceiling.

Our indoor bouncy castle hire options include inflatables suited to different venue sizes. Smaller children's bouncy castles and toddler bouncy castles can be particularly useful for halls with limited space.

If you haven't chosen a venue yet, browse our party venues for ideas and information about local halls and event spaces.

Step 4: Make Sure We Can Get the Inflatable Into Your Venue

Even if your garden or hall is large enough, we still need to transport the inflatable to the installation area.

Think about the route from our delivery vehicle to the intended setup position.

  • Garden gates: Is the opening wide enough for the equipment?
  • Side passages: Are there narrow sections, steps or sharp turns?
  • Through-house access: Would equipment need to pass through your home?
  • Indoor venues: Are doorways, corridors and entrances suitable?
  • Parking: Can our delivery vehicle stop reasonably close to the venue?

Larger assault courses and inflatable slides can be particularly bulky when packed away, so access arrangements are important.

If access is restricted, tell us before booking. A photograph of the route can help us assess whether delivery is practical.

Step 5: Check the Surface Where the Inflatable Will Stand

The type of ground matters as much as the amount of space available.

Grass Gardens

Natural grass is generally the preferred outdoor surface because suitable ground anchors can be used to secure the inflatable. The ground should be reasonably level, free from sharp objects and suitable for anchoring.

Concrete, Tarmac and Patios

Some inflatables can be installed on hard surfaces, but only where an appropriate anchoring system can be provided. Ordinary sandbags are not automatically sufficient, particularly for larger inflatables.

Tell us if your event is taking place on concrete, paving or tarmac so we can assess whether a compliant installation is possible.

Artificial Grass

Artificial grass requires additional consideration, particularly if ground anchors cannot be installed through it. We will need to establish what is underneath the surface and whether suitable anchoring is possible.

Indoor Flooring

Indoor inflatables need appropriate securing arrangements and a suitable floor surface. We will also consider entrances, exits and the available space for supervision.

Step 6: Check Where the Electricity Will Come From

Most bouncy castles require a continuous electricity supply to operate their blowers.

Before booking, identify the nearest suitable socket and measure the distance to the inflatable's proposed position. We generally ask customers to have a suitable power supply within approximately 25 metres, although the permitted cable arrangement must be confirmed for the equipment being hired.

If you're organising an event on a school field, in a large garden or at a venue without convenient mains electricity, we also offer petrol generator hire.

Let us know about your power arrangements so we can advise on the appropriate setup.

Step 7: Choose an Inflatable That Suits Your Space

Once you've measured your venue, you can narrow down the options. Different inflatable styles have different space requirements, and the largest model isn't necessarily the most suitable choice.

You can also browse our special multi deals if you're planning to hire more than one inflatable. Just remember to leave enough space between attractions, as well as room for queues and supervision.

What If Your Garden Is on a Slope?

A slight gradient doesn't always prevent inflatable hire, but sloping ground needs to be assessed carefully.

Steep slopes, uneven surfaces and areas with significant changes in ground level may be unsuitable. Don't attempt to level an inflatable using improvised supports or place it somewhere that could affect its stability.

If you're unsure about your garden, send us photographs showing the slope and the proposed installation area. We'll advise whether the location appears suitable or whether further measurements are needed.

Can You Put a Bouncy Castle Under a Gazebo or Marquee?

Only if the structure provides the required clearance and the installation can meet all relevant safety requirements.

It's important to consider overhead framework, side walls, access points, anchoring and the distance between the inflatable and the surrounding structure.

Don't assume a bouncy castle will fit simply because its stated height is lower than the marquee roof. Contact us before arranging this type of installation.

How to Measure Your Venue Before Contacting Bouncetastic

To help us recommend suitable equipment, it is useful to have the following information ready:

  1. The available width and length of the installation area.
  2. The ceiling height, if the event is indoors.
  3. The type of ground or flooring.
  4. Any slopes, trees, fences, pillars or other obstacles.
  5. The width of gates, doors and access routes.
  6. The location of the nearest suitable power supply.
  7. The ages of the people who will be using the inflatable.

Photographs can also be useful, particularly for unusual garden layouts or venues with restricted access.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bouncy Castle Sizes

Can I hire a bouncy castle for a small garden?

Yes, we have smaller inflatables that may be suitable for compact gardens. Measure your available space and compare it with the inflatable's dimensions and required safety clearance before booking.

Does the blower need extra space?

Yes. The blower and inflation tube need suitable clearance and must remain accessible. Their position varies between inflatables, so check the requirements for your chosen product.

Can a bouncy castle touch a fence or wall?

No. Inflatables need appropriate clearance from surrounding obstacles. A bouncy castle should not be squeezed against a wall or fence simply to make it fit.

What if my venue has a low ceiling?

We may be able to recommend a lower-height inflatable from our indoor range. You will need to provide the ceiling height and details of any overhead obstructions.

Can I send photographs of my garden or hall?

Yes. Photographs and measurements can help us assess the proposed setup area and recommend suitable equipment. We may need additional information before confirming suitability.

Who confirms whether the inflatable can be installed safely?

Our team will assess the proposed installation against the inflatable's requirements. Final suitability depends on the actual conditions, including space, access, anchoring and weather where applicable.
